How to Request Accommodations

Requesting accommodations is a shared, interactive process. We work together to understand the barriers you’re experiencing and determine reasonable accommodations based on your individual needs.

It generally takes 1-3 weeks for students to start receiving accommodations after starting this process. That difference depends on how quickly we receive information from the student and how many requests we are processing. We typically respond to emails within 1 - 3 business days. The best way to keep things moving is to check your WVC student email regularly and respond if we reach out.

You can request accommodations at any time while you are a WVC student. However, accommodations cannot be applied retroactively. That means accommodations only apply to future coursework.

Overview of the Process

There are four main steps to start accommodations at WVC:

  • Step 1: Submit your SAS application and disability documentation.
  • Step 2: Watch your student email for next steps.
  • Step 3: Attend an intake appointment.
  • Step 4: Request/use your accommodations each quarter.

Step 1: SAS Application and Documentation

Submitting the SAS application is the first and most important step.

Before completing the form, please review our documentation guidelines so you understand what information we may need.

You will use your WVC student email login to access the application form. Contact the WVC Help Center if you need assistance with your account.

Step 2 - Check Your Email

After you submit your application and documentation, SAS will contact you through your WVC student email within 3 - 5 business days. That message will include links to schedule an intake appointment or may ask for more information.

If you’re unsure what we need or feel stuck, simply reply to our email. We will help you through the process.

If we do not hear back from you after 2 - 3 attempts, we will archive your application. Don’t worry. Archiving simply means we paused the process until you’re ready to continue; we will stop trying to contact you until you reach out. Archived applications are easy to reopen. Just email or call us to resume the process.

Step 3 – Attend Your Intake Appointment

If you are eligible to move forward, you will receive a link to schedule a meeting with the Director of Student Access. You may choose to meet in person or virtually. Omak students may request an in-person appointment by contacting our office directly.

The intake appointment is a conversation. We’ll talk about the barriers you’re experiencing, your disability-related needs, and possible accommodations. We will also review your rights and responsibilities as a student using accommodations.

Accommodations are always determined on a case-by-case basis. We consider your specific courses, program requirements, and individual circumstances.

Appointments typically last about an hour. In some cases, follow-up may be needed. If accommodations cannot be approved during the appointment, we will clearly explain next steps.

Step 4 - Using Your Accommodations

Once your accommodations are approved, you are eligible to begin using them.

Each quarter, you will need to request your accommodations if you would like to use them. We'll show you how to do that in your intake appointment. For many students, this is a simple request through the SAS portal. In some situations, a brief follow-up conversation may be needed to confirm your needs for that term.

You never need to disclose your diagnosis to your instructors. However, you do need to communicate about your approved accommodations in each class.

Check out our student resources for more guidance using your accommodations.

If you ever have questions or need support, you can schedule an appointment through the SAS portal, email sas@wvc.edu, or call 509-682-6854 (TTY/TDD: 711). We are here to help.
