Appeal & Grievance Process

If a student believes they have faced discrimination or been denied Reasonable Accommodation on the basis of their Disability, they may file an internal complaint, grievance with WA state, and/or formal complaint with federal bodies.

Requesting Review or Reconsideration (Appeal)

If you would like to request a reconsideration of denied accommodation(s), you may contact the Student Access Manager, Jenna Floyd, at sas@wvc.edu or 509-682-6854. Students using accommodations at WVC should update SAS any time their needs change. If you would like additional accommodations or updates to your existing accommodations please also reach out to SAS.

Note: you are NOT required to try to resolve concerns with SAS or WVC before filing complaint or grievance remedies through a supervisor, a state, or federal agency.

Complaint with WVC

If you would like to submit a complaint, please contact Dr. Diana Garza, Vice President of Student Affairs at dgarza@wvc.edu or 509-682-6805. We recommend students attempt to express concern or resolve issues through SAS first, however this is not required. Students may contact Dr. Garza at any time.

Bias Incident Response Team

WVC Bias Incident Response Team (BIRT) acts quickly and effectively in case of any hate crimes or bias incidents on our campus. A Bias Incident is characterized as a behavior or act—verbal, written or physical—which is personally directed against or targets an individual or group based on perceived or actual characteristics such as race, color, religious belief, sex, marital status, sexual orientation, gender identity or expression, national or ethnic origin, disability, veteran status, or age. You can report a Bias Incident or Hate Crime here, or by emailing bias@wvc.edu
