COVID-19 Employee Resources

During this challenging time, protecting our vulnerable populations is our highest priority. 

Need-to-know information (as of April 2020)

  • To help reduce the spread of Coronavirus (COVID-19), access to WVC buildings is restricted to faculty and staff until further notice. This is in accordance with the governor’s “Stay Home, Stay Healthy” order.
  • All events and activities are canceled until further notice.
  • Spring quarter begins on April 6, but instruction and classes will not begin until April 13. The quarter is still scheduled to end on June 19.
  • Spring quarter instruction will be delivered online as much as possible. Faculty will provide more specific instructions to their students via email and/or Canvas before the start of the quarter.
  • Employees should check with their supervisors for specific instructions.

FAQ’s for WVC Faculty & Staff

This is a rapidly evolving situation, the most up to date information will be available at Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) and Washington State Department of Health. This webpage will be updated with new information regarding changes to employee leave rules.

This Act expired on December 31, 2020. I have left the information in case it is renewed.

The federal Families First Coronavirus Response Act (FFCRA) was enacted on March 18, 2020. It includes two different employee leave acts  for employees that are unable to work or telework: Emergency Paid Sick Leave Act (EPSLA), which provides up to 80 hours of paid leave to qualifying employees who need leave for their own COVID-19 health related issues, to care for an individual with COVID-19 issues, and the Emergency Family and Medical Leave Expansion Act (EFMLEA), which provides qualifying employees up to twelve weeks of paid and unpaid leave to care for a minor child due to a COVID-19 related school or child care closure.

These acts are effective on April 1, 2020 and expire on December 31, 2020. This poster explains what employees’ rights are under the EFMLEA and EPSLA.

Where leave is foreseeable, you should provide notice of leave to your supervisor/HR as soon as is practicable. After the first workday of paid sick time, WVC may require employees to follow reasonable notice procedures in order to continue receiving paid sick time.

Employees who are interested in accessing these new types of leave should complete and submit the FFCRA request form (available on the HR website/Resources or under Links on the right side of this page) to with any required documentation included. Upon receipt of all forms, HR will be in contact to confirm eligibility and coordinate approved periods of leave.
