The WVC Speaks Lecture Series, with Andrew Tudor presenting “What Music Tells Us About Leadership and Collaboration” on Thursday, Sept. 29, at 2 p.m. in Wenatchi Hall 2105 and Omak room 901 via ITV. A composer leads by expressing an idea. A conductor leads by interpreting that idea, and musicians lead by working collaboratively to bring that idea to life. These roles are reflected in leadership theory. There are all sorts of other examples of leadership in music, but how do these examples inform the leadership we see in the non-musical world? Great musical leaders make the infinitely complex interactions in music beautiful, and they can teach us to do the same in our organizations. The event is sponsored by WVC Foundation Professional Development Fund. For more information, contact Randy Mitchell, rmitchell@wvc.edu or 509.682.6858.

The Brent Edstrom Jazz Trio will give a lecture, “Musicianship in the Digital World,” from 11 a.m. to 12 p.m. in The Grove Recital Hall. The lecture will explore aspects of composition, production and performance incorporating digital tools into these areas. Edstrom will also give an introduction to Arduino technology and ways modern musicians can expand their creative palette. To reserve a seat, call 509.682.6780.

The jazz trio will also perform an evening of jazz on Thursday, Sept. 29, in The Grove Recital Hall, Music and Art Center. A social hour is at 6 p.m.; the concert is at 7 p.m. To reserve a seat, call 509.682.6780. This event is sponsored by Phil and Lovelyn Rasmussen, and the WVC Foundation.
