WVC at Omak Foundation awards Nelson Accounting Scholarships
The Wenatchee Valley College at Omak Foundation awarded two Nelson Accounting Scholarships of $2,000 each to current WVC at Omak students pursuing degrees in accounting.
Tatyana Ann Martinez, of Omak, has volunteered at the after-school program at North Elementary School, where she worked with students from kindergarten through second grade. She intends to join an accounting practice in Omak and, after gaining some experience, open her own business. Martinez would also like to open a recreational center for youth in Omak.
Megan Azzano is originally from Renton. She has been involved in the Apple Hill Art Camp and Children’s House Montessori board, as well as her children’s extracurricular activities. She plans to continue her studies to become a CPA after graduating from WVC at Omak.
The WVC at Omak Foundation is still accepting applications for a $1,000 award from the Nelson Accounting Scholarship. Omak campus students who are pursuing degrees in accounting should contact the WVC at Omak Financial Aid Office at 509-422-7808.
The Nelson Accounting Scholarship was established in 2009 by former Omak High School graduates Richard “Dick” Nelson and Susan Featherstone Nelson, who believed in giving back to the community that helped them. Following Richard’s death, Susan continued the generosity of the Nelson family with this annual $5,000 scholarship. She is a former certified public accountant and certified financial planner, now retired.
Other organizations and people interested in making a tax-deductible donation are encouraged to contact Jennifer Short, WVC at Omak Foundation board executive secretary, at jshort@wvc.edu, or call 509.422.7835. Donations can also be mailed to P.O. Box 1374, Omak, WA 98841-1374. WVC at Omak Foundation is an I.R.S. Code Sec. 501(c)(3) Charitable Corporation and all donations are tax deductible.
