The first concert in the new Wenatchee Valley College Quarterly Music Series will feature the Brent Edstrom Jazz Trio on Thursday, Sept. 29, at 7 p.m. in The Grove Recital Hall.  There will be a light social hour at 6 p.m. in the Marlys Barrett Lobby of the Music and Art Center.

The concert is free and open to the public. Any donations will benefit the WVC Foundation.  Seating is limited; call 509.682.6780 for reservations.

The jazz trio includes Brent Edstrom on piano, Eugene Jablonsky on bass and Rick Westrick on drums.

Edstrom is known for his hard-swinging style and refined technique. He entertains crowds around the Northwest and throughout the U.S., occasionally touring with Motown star Freda Payne. He is known internationally for his jazz arrangements and transcriptions, and his compositions and arrangements have been featured with symphonies from Lithuania to Dallas. He is a professor of music at Whitworth University, where he teaches jazz composition and coordinates the music theory program.

Jablonsky has performed with many orchestras, including the Cincinnati Chamber Orchestra, Philadelphia Philharmonia, Grand Teton Music Festival Orchestra and Prairie Home Companion All-Star Shoe Band. He has performed with Clark Terry, Jon Faddis, Doc Severinsen, Carmen Bradford, Marian McPartland and many others. Jablonsky’s sense of humor and quick wit are evident in both his playing and on-stage banter.

Westrick has performed with the Spokane Symphony Orchestra for over 25 years. He is also in demand as a teacher and player. He teaches percussion at Gonzaga Preparatory School, Spokane Falls Community College, Whitworth University and the Mead School District. He has appeared with numerous national acts including Doc Severinsen, Carl Fontana, Bud Shank, Bill Watrous, Dick Oatts, Conrad Herwig, The Diamonds, The Platters and The Drifters.

The concert is sponsored by Phil and Lovelyn Rasmussen, and the WVC Foundation.
