Honorary Degree

400.250 HONORARY DEGREE POLICY

In accordance with 1991 state legislation, the Wenatchee Valley College Board of Trustees may confer, upon recommendation of the faculty, one honorary associate of arts degree each academic year upon persons (other than graduates of either campus) in recognition of their learning or devotion to education, literature, art, or science. No degree may be conferred in consideration of the payment of money or the donation of any kind of property.

1400.250 HONORARY DEGREE PROCEDURE

  1. A faculty member or group of faculty members may nominate a person for an honorary associate of arts degree by submitting a written recommendation and accompanying documentation to the president of the college. The recommendation should list the attributes and/or activities that demonstrate the person's service to the college and/or community.
  2. The recommendation and accompanying documentation will be forwarded to an honorary degree committee composed of three faculty members representing both campuses and two administrators (one from each campus). Faculty members will be selected by the faculty association; administrative members will be selected by the president's cabinet.
  3. The committee's recommendation will be presented by the president to the board of trustees for action.
  4. Awarding of the honorary degree certificate will take place at the annual commencement ceremony on the appropriate campus.
