Meet the Minds Behind the Mission: Brett Peterson
Though Brett Peterson is not a Wenatchee Valley College alum, he believes education
is important because it promotes individual opportunities and personal empowerment,
as well as cultivating a growth mindset. “An educated community is a prosperous community,”
he said.
Brett is inspired to serve on the WVC Foundation board because it provides scholarships to students who often times come from challenging financial situations; these scholarships enable students to continue their education through tough times.
“Without the financial assistance from the Foundation, many students would be slipping through the cracks, would not graduate with a degree or certificate, and would not go on to fulfill their personal dreams,” he said. “So ultimately, the WVC Foundation is about helping people achieve their dreams, and we play a role in breaking down barriers.”
Brett’s favorite memory as a WVC Foundation board member involves hearing personal stories from students receiving scholarship funds which help continue their journey in obtaining a degree or certificate.
Outside of serving on the WVC Foundation board, Brett enjoys spending time with his family, mountain biking, skiing, day trips to Leavenworth and Chelan, and DIY house projects.
“The access and affordability of a community college are tremendously important to smaller communities like Wenatchee and the surrounding area,” Brett said. “It truly helps people achieve their dreams.”
