Meet the Minds Behind the Mission: Olga Camarena

Olga Camarena attended Wenatchee Valley College in 2009, and believes that education is important because it has the power to change lives, including her own. “Coming from a small town, I’ve seen firsthand how limited access to opportunities can hold people back,” she said.Olga

For Olga, receiving an education is not just about earning a degree, but is also about opening doors that many people may not realize are possible. “I want to use my own experience to help other students, especially those from small towns like mine, see that college is within reach,” she said. “Education is what shapes our future, and I believe it’s one of the most powerful tools we have to create change not just for ourselves, but our communities too.”

Olga is inspired to serve on the WVC Foundation board because she enjoys the opportunity to be a voice for students, especially those who may not always feel heard. “As someone who understands the challenges many students face, I want to make sure their needs, dreams, and struggles are represented,” she said. “Serving on the board is a powerful way for me to give back and help create more opportunities for students to succeed, no matter their background.”

Olga’s favorite memory as a WVC Foundation board member is the annual Food Truck Knight event, because it was a fun and meaningful experience that brought the community together in a safe and welcoming space. “The event had everything from amazing local food, great music, games, and strong participation from people all across the valley,” she said. “It was a perfect example of how we can celebrate our community while also raising important funds for students.”

Outside of serving on the WVC Foundation board, Olga enjoys spending quality time with her kids, as well as being involved within the boxing industry. “I’m proud to say that I have two national champions, my sons Jaydeen and Jacob,” Olga said.

WVC matters to Olga because it is an affordable option for students here in the valley, making higher education accessible to many who might not otherwise have the chance. “The college offers a variety of programs and financial assistance that truly support students in pursuing their dreams without the heavy burden of cost.”
